Ratio Word Problems

                    Lesson 1

Problem:                   Which is bigger, one-eighth of 32 or half of 6?

Solution                    Write them in fractional form and calculate

Step 1:  

Solution 1/8  × 32 =  4

Step 2:                                   

1/2  × 6 =  3

Solution  4 is bigger than 3

Step 3:

                                                            Solution                    The answer is: one eighth of 32

 Step 4:

                                                            Try two practice problems:  

Do the following:

A.	Which is bigger, one-eighth of 40 or half of 12?
B.	Two numbers are in a ratio of 3:4.Their sum is 49. Find the largest number.
